Internet Presence and Accessibility

More than casually familiar with Internet access, Dan has extensive knowledge of accessibility , design, configuration and programming. A long-time provider of web hosting services, Dan has helped everyone from individuals to non-profits and international business clients establish and maintain a professional Web presence. Dan has been the director of assistive technology services for a statewide program he developed, has lectured to international audiences, public and private businesses and state agencies on developing and maintaining accessible, interactive Web sites. He has also contributed to the development of the W3C Web Content Accessibilty Guidelines and the ITRM (Information Technology Resource Management) Web Site Guideline for the Vriginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA)

Project Management

As a project manager and technical lead Dan has numerous credits which include:

  • Led a diverse group of hardware and software engineers in the development of a national weather detection network project in an environment requiring proprietary hardware integration, Java , C#, Flash and Internet programming.
  • Documented all aspects of project development, including meeting minutes, project status reporting, best practices recommendations and a project plan to be used for acquiring and reporting to investors.
  • Contributed to the development and implementation of numerous employment projects designed to employ persons with disabilities, including a large scale Virginia Department of Taxation Service Center program and a nationwide Pizza Hut Service Center operation.

Accessibility Design and Worksite Modification

Dan has many technical credits, as well. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Used Rapid Application Development model to develop a notebook battery power meter product, accessible to the blind.
  • Wrote and holds the copyright to EZMedia, an accessible media player product, written in Pascal for the Windows 9X, XP operating systems.
  • Built a computer training lab, networking each desktop system to a Windows 2000 Server.
  • Wrote network configuration scripts using Windows Scripting.
  • Constructed Microsoft Access applications and Microsoft Word templates using Visual Basic to provide blind customers an accessible means of completing forms in “paper and pencil” operations.
  • Consultant for the accessible design of the Commonwealth of Virginia, VISSTA, “Child Abuse and Neglect: Recognizing, Reporting, and Responding for Educators” training and testing web site application.
  • Contributed to the development of the Portico notebook computer for persons with disabilities.
  • Proficient in the development of custom JAWS for Windows screen reader scripts and Dragon NaturallySpeaking voice dictation commands.
